VMEK Sorting Technology is pleased to take its years of experience in the sorting industry and apply them to a unique batching solution: The Abacus Plus. This machine is designed to take bulk material and divide it into exact count batches.

The first step is to isolate each part by cascading them down a shoot to create separation. Next, each part is validated for the proper size and color. Then each validated part is counted and separated using high speed ejectors and diverters. Next each batch is verified for the proper count.  Lastly the data on each batch is output for traceability and automated quality reporting.  Here it is running a 40 count at 30 packs per minute.

The machine comes in two standard configurations: a single chute capable of up to 60 packs per minute, or a twin chute capable of up to 120 packs per minute. The Abacus Plus is highly accurate, easy to use, and easy to maintain. The intuitive interface allows for easy operation and all change parts can be removed without tools. In addition, all contact surfaces are food-safe.

Although the primary purpose of the Abacus Plus is to provide a robust accurate counting solution, it also doubles as a product inspection system. Using VMEK's proprietary lighting and camera technology, full-surface inspection is performed on each part. This enables each part to be validated by general color and size characteristics, as well as scanning for any foreign material or debris introduced into the flow.

The data is collected, then used to create a final quality score for each batch. This includes the final count, color blend, and presence of other material for quality reporting and lot ID and batch ID for traceability. It is also a goal to be as flexible as possible.  This means having the ability to handle different bulk materials, as well as filling various packaging types.

Here a timing hopper is integrated to collect the parts and deposit them into a vertical form fill and seal machine.  Or it can load directly into a staged container in a bottling line. The Abacus Plus provides special advantages for bottle filling applications. Since it drops the product from the top of the chute to the bottom of the container without stopping, it provides efficient loading through a small opening, resulting in a compact finished product.

As you can see, there are many advantages to the Abacus Plus solution for packaging applications that require accurate counting and 100% quality reporting. Each part is validated, counted, and verified. And each batch is graded and reported.
